The New Code Wiz Project, a program under Ujima Way, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) public charity focused on providing beginning and front-end web development and IT training to economically disadvantaged residents in Metro Atlanta. The project is dedicated to creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment, with a curriculum tailored to individuals who are new to technical education.

Courses

Intro to New CodeWiz (3-4 weeks)

In this course we introduce students to web development by teaching them about HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) which is the foundation of web pages and sites. We also cover CSS, (Cascading Stylesheets) which formats website content and themes. This provides our students a well-rounded introduction to web development & design.

Intro to New Code Wiz JS (6-8 weeks)

In this course, we introduce students to the basics of JavaScript, a premier web coding language. Students will begin to add programming logic to web applications, making their entrance into programming.

Course Requirements & Expectations

As a new student, we have some important expectations and requirements to help you succeed in the course:

Respect and Courtesy

   – Be respectful and courteous to both your classmates and instructors throughout the course. A positive and supportive learning environment is essential for everyone’s success.

Active Participation

   – Stay engaged by working on your assignments diligently. Coding is a skill learned through practice, so complete your tasks and ask questions whenever you need help. Understanding the concepts and best practices is key to mastering coding.

Google Account

   – A Google account is necessary to access the classroom and course materials. Ensure you have one set up before the course begins.

Technology Requirements

   – You’ll need a computer and internet access to participate in the course effectively. If you don’t have access to these, please let us know so we can explore possible accommodations.

Interest Assessment

   – You’ll be required to take an assessment. This will help us gauge your interest and tailor courses to better suit your learning needs.
